    • Dr. Robert T. Askins was born in Marion District, South Carolina, on 18 March 1800 and he died in Darlington District, South Carolina, on 14 June 1863.' He lived to be 63 years old. He was a medical doctor and a farmer. Although he shows up in records as having lived in both Marion and in Darlington districts, he actually always lived in what today would be Florence County. His home was on the north side of Lynches Creek (River) .He was married three times and he had at least eleven children .

      He first married Sarah Pilkington on 18 March 1820." She was a daughter of Drura Pilkington and his wife Jane Pilkington who had moved from Chesterfield County, Virginia, and settled on the north side of Lynches River, on DeHays Branch, in old Marion District, now Florence County.

      Robert T. Askins and Sarah Pilkington Askins lived together on the north side of Lynches River for sixteen years, and they were the parents of at least eight children. Sarah Pilkington Askins died on 21 March 1846.

      Dr. Robert T. Askins married, second, to Ann Hewitt of Williamsburg District on 3 June 1846. Ann Hewitt had been born 5 September 1809, a daughter of Eliphalet H. Hewitt and his wife Mary Burrows Hewitt. Ann Hewitt Askins died on 26 April 1858. During the nearly twelve years that she and Dr. Robert T. Askins lived together on the north side of Lynches River they had at least two children who lived to be adults, as follows:

      Joseph Armstrong Jolly Askins, born 20 June 1847, died 26 May 1865 as a Confederate soldier in prison at Camp Chase, Ohio. He left neither a wife nor children. Samuel Marion Askins, born 30 August 1849, died 26 February 1934. He married Lizzie F. Webster."

      Dr. Robert T. Askins married, third, to Martha Jane Steel on 13 June 1856. Martha Jane Steel had been born about 1823, and she died about 1870. They lived together for four years, during which time they had one child
